Matthew Herbert Adie Grose was born circa 1867 at Douglas. A baptism has not been located but his age was given as 78 years at his burial on the 20th of February, 1946, at Lonan. This agrees with the ages recorded in the census returns.
He married Elizabeth Lawson on the 28th of April, 1892, at Lonan.
In 1871 he was living with his mother at the lodging house of his grand-mother at 70, Bucks Road. In 1881 he was living with his parents at 61, Athol Street. In 1891 he was working as a coachman for William Pittat, "The Cliff", Douglas. He has not been identified in the 1901 census but his wife was living at The Shore, Laxey, with their children Mable and John.
