James Quarrie was baptized on the 28th of March, 1784, at Yeltholm, Roxburgshire, Scotland. A cooper, he married Maragret Deans on the 30th of November, 1805, at Yeltholm. Their first child was baptized at Chesters, Southdean, Roxboroughshire. Their next two children also appear to have been born at Chesters though baptisms have not been found. Between 1810 and 1813 the family moved to the Isle of Man where the rest of the children were born. He died on the 25th of July, 1840, and was buried at Andreas on the 28th of July.
