Matthias Taggart was born ca 1828, probably at St. Marks, Malew. A baptismal record has not been found. In 1841 he was living with his parents at Raggey, Malew. At the census of 1851 he was visiting at the home of Margaret Fargher, his future mother-in-law, at Eirey Kellag, Marown. At this time he was employed as a tailor. He married Elizabeth Fargher on the 31st of May, 1851, at Marown. In 1861 he and his family were living at Barule Common, Malew. His employment is now described as “Tailor and miner”. In 1871 the family were living at 10, Close Clark. Matthias is now described as “Farmer of 14 acres and lead miner”.
John Taggart married Ann Collister on the 7th of June, 1810. Also John Taggart married Ann Quayle on the 24th of July, 1814.
Although a baptizal record for Matthias has not beeen found by using the census records is seems most likely that John & Ann Callister/Collister were his parents.
