John Cannell Wade was baptized on the 18th of November, 1803, at Michael. He married, Catherine Hampton on the the 1st of January, 1836, at German. He was buried at Lonan on the 5th of June, 1878, when his age was recorded as 75 years.
At his marriage he appears to have been a wever employed in one of the mills near Douglas. Around 1834 the family moved to the north as all the later children were baptized at Maughold. The 1841 census shows the family living at Ronnie-ne-Shimin in Maughold when John was employed as a weaver. In 1851 the family had moved to Ballarragh, Lonan, when John was employed as a labourer at the mines. In 1861 the census shows the family at the same address, 9 Ballaragh, and John still employed as a labourer at the mines. (The birth place of his wife and daughter, Eleanor, is given as "Michael", but this is an obvious error.) In 1871 John and Catherine are still living at Ballaragh. John is now a retired lead miner. Their unmarried daughter, Elizabeth is living with them, as is their married daughter, Eleanor Cowle, and her family.
