William Lawson was baptized on the 17th of July, 1833, at Santan. He married firstly his 7th cousin, Eleanor Cain, on the 11th of December, 1856, at Malew, and secondly Catherine Wright on the 19th of August, 1871, at Malew. He was buried on the 24th of February, 1916, at Malew, when his age was recorded as eighty-four years.
He apprenticed as a shoemaker and was employed as such at the 1861 census. By 1871 he was employed as a labourer at the lime quarry where he appears to have spent the rest of his working life.
