William Lawson was baptized on the the 30th of June, 1769, at Rushen. He married Catherine Moore on the 30th of December, 1790, at Rushen. Neither a burial nor a Will has yet been located.
By 1795 the family had moved to Douglas where William enlisted in the "Manx Fencibles". His enlistment record describes him as having "fair complexion, grey eyes and fair hair". A letter from Robert Cally to the family of John Creetch in December of 1781 mentions that he, Robert, had served with William on the smack owned by Mr. Tumman.
