Richard Sanders was baptized on the 5th of January, 1834, at St. Mary Birkenhead, together with his older sister Phoebe. He married Mary Ann Willoughby on the 25th of December, 1854, at St. Nicholas, Liverpool. At this time he was recorded as being of full age. He was residing at Rose Place and his occupation was given as boilermaker. In 1881 he was recorded as head of household and was running the family fruit stall at Birkenhead Market.
